LINE Launches Mini DApps with Kaia Mainnet

LINE, a popular messaging app in Asia, is set to integrate “mini DApps” with the launch of Kaia’s mainnet. This move mirrors a similar feature that Telegram introduced last year.

Two major Asian messaging apps developed Kaia, a layer-1 blockchain. Kaia launched its mainnet on August 29, promising impressive features like processing speeds of about one second and very low gas fees. The Kaia DLT Foundation, the organization behind the blockchain, highlighted these features in a blog post.

With the mainnet launch, Kaia introduced Kaika Wave, a program designed to help developers create “mini DApps.” These decentralized applications will integrate seamlessly with LINE, providing users with more functionality within the messaging app.

Kaia was born from the merger of two blockchains in February. These were the Finschia blockchain, developed by LINE from Japan, and the Klaytn blockchain, created by Kakao, a major South Korean social app developer. LINE and Kakao are both popular in Asia, with a combined user base of over 250 million people. Most users are located in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia.

While specific details about which mini DApps will be available on LINE have not been released yet, the integration is expected to follow the path of Telegram. Last year, Telegram introduced Mini Apps on its platform, allowing a range of functionalities, from to-do lists and language tutoring to job searching and dating. It also supports various crypto apps for trading, staking, launching tokens, and playing games. These features have attracted millions of users to Telegram.

Recently, however, the TON blockchain, which supports Telegram’s Mini Apps, has faced outages. In the past 36 hours, it went offline twice, once for over seven hours and then again for six hours. The outages were caused by an airdrop of a dog-themed memecoin called Dogs (DOGS). The airdrop led to a network overload, as many users rushed to participate, straining the network beyond its capacity.
