A shopper is suing Dolce & Gabbana USA over a disappointing metaverse NFT purchase. The buyer spent $6,000 on NFTs, which included virtual outfits, only to see their value plummet by 97%.Â
The complaint states that Dolce & Gabbana promoted these NFTs as offering various digital, physical, and experiential benefits. Buyers could trade these NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain, which promised access to exclusive rewards, products, and events.Â
The lawsuit filed on May 16 in Manhattan federal court alleges that Dolce & Gabbana delivered the NFTs 20 days late and failed to provide the promised benefits on time. The digital outfits could only be used on a sparsely populated metaverse platform. Even then, they were unusable for an additional 11 days due to pending approval from the platform.Â
The lawsuit claims, “They promise products but fail to deliver and then abandon the project and community they promised to support.” Luke Brown, the plaintiff, reports losing $5,800 on his NFT purchase and represents a proposed class of other buyers.Â
The lawsuit also names the NFT marketplace UNXD as a defendant. Neither Dolce & Gabbana nor UNXD have commented on the lawsuit outside of regular business hours.Â
