The FBI reported an alleged assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his Florida golf club on Sunday. This marks the second attempt on his life in two months.
The Trump campaign confirmed that Trump got out without injuries. While playing at Trump International Golf Club, a Secret Service agent noticed a man with a rifle near the course’s perimeter. This happened as Trump was transitioning between the fifth and sixth holes.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw stated that the agent “immediately reacted to the suspect.” The individual was about 300 to 500 yards away from Trump at the time. After the agents spotted him, the suspect fled in a vehicle. Law enforcement quickly tracked him down, thanks to a tip from a witness.
Authorities in Martin County, north of Palm Beach, have detained the suspect. On this occasion, they recovered an AK-47-style rifle, two backpacks with ceramic tiles, and a GoPro camera. These items indicate that the suspect might have premeditated the act.
This incident follows another assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The series of events has drawn strong reactions from the public, including remarks from Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
The news caused a stir in the financial markets. The Trump-themed meme coin, MAGA (TRUMP), dropped over 12% in value.
Despite these security issues, the Trump family is moving forward with the launch of World Liberty Financial, a new decentralized finance (DeFi) project. Trump announced this initiative in a video message last week, generating widespread interest. “The Defiant Ones,” which was an initial project name, it is now called World Liberty Financial (WLFI).
