In a shocking turn of events, someone stabbed the CEO of South Korean crypto firm Haru Invest during his fraud trial. Police reported that an attacker assaulted the CEO, known only by his surname Lee, in court on Wednesday.Â
The stabbing occurred at the Seoul Southern District Court. A man in his 50s, who was present at the trial, stabbed Lee in the neck. An official from the Seoul Yangcheon Police Station confirmed the incident.Â
Lee was quickly taken to the hospital, but his injuries are not life-threatening. The attack comes as Lee faces serious fraud charges. Authorities indicted him in February after Haru Invest halted withdrawals of around 1.4 trillion won (about $1.05 billion) in cryptocurrency. Customers deposited these funds between March 2020 and June 2023.Â
Police have arrested the assailant and are investigating his motives for the attack. The courtroom incident has raised concerns over security and the ongoing trial.Â
