Yuga Labs, the company famous for Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), has decided to sell off the rights to two of its games, HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara. This move is part of their strategy to shift focus onto other aspects of their business.
On April 17, Yuga Labs announced that Faraway, a gaming studio, has acquired the rights to these games. Spencer Tucker, Yuga Labs’ gaming officer, will now join Faraway as the head of product. He will ensure a smooth transition for the games.
HV-MTL
HV-MTL Forge is a game that begins as a blend of a pet game and a casual world builder. It transforms into a competitive dungeon crawler as you progress.
Your HV relies on you to evolve into an Evo2 and unlock up to 6 powerful upgrades for its Evo2 form.
To achieve this, you must construct a workshop. That is your forge – which will generate the energy required to explore the Rift while ensuring the happiness of your HV.
Throughout the game, you will be subject to the judgment of fellow players who will vote daily on the performance of your forge. After 3 weeks, the season’s votes will be tallied, determining your fate.
Legends of the Mara
Legends Of the Mara is a new collection-based 2D strategy game. Claim your Vessel, discover its potential, and forge your path soon. Kodas are the primary keepers of Otherside, skilled in farming, enchanting, and hunting.
Learn about their origins and primal relationship with Otherside, encounter new apprentices called the Mara, and delve into the story of Otherside throughout LOTM. Each Otherdeed holder can claim a Vessel, which can evolve into Mara and Kodamara to aid in defending the Otherside.
This collaboration between Yuga Labs and Faraway comes after Greg Solano, the CEO of Yuga Labs, returned to the company. He brought a plan to grant more autonomy to the BAYC team. They hope that by doing so, they can better focus on their goals and adapt more readily to changes in their vision.
Faraway has previously worked on a game called Serum City. A game that was based on Yuga Labs’ Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFT collection.
The announcement overlapped with a period of decreasing values for NFTs in general. The BAYC collection, one of the most prominent NFT projects, has experienced a significant decline.
Currently, the lowest price for a BAYC NFT stands at 11.7 Ether (ETH), approximately $35,400. This marks a substantial drop of 92% from its peak price of 153.7 ETH on May 1, 2022.
